GILL BUTLER

Gill has been involved in community theatre in Croydon since October 1995, when she made her acting debut with a prominent local theatre company, as Mel in John Godber’s “Shakers”, a comedy set in a ‘trendy’ cocktail bar. This play was written for just four actresses who remain on stage for the whole two hours, portraying a multitude of roles each!

Gill’s background is as a professional lead singer with Indie Rock band, “Shark Taboo”, who toured the UK, Europe and the US extensively in the 80’s/early 90’s and released numerous CD’s /Albums, Singles and Videos.

   Mollie, the fickle horse in a rock musical version of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”, a production in which she doubled as Musical Director and co-wrote all the music and songs for the show

    Vari, in the award-winning Sharman MacDonald play, “When I was a girl I used to scream and shout”

   Phyllis in Alan Ayckbourn’s Christmas farce,“Season’s Greetings”

   Lady Cynthia, in a spoof horror, adapted from a Victorian penny dreadful, “Varney the Vampire” which was performed as an ‘Alternative Panto’ Christmas 2000

     Lesley in EXIT’s production of Alan Bennett’s ‘Talking Heads’ monologue, “Her Big Chance” performed at the Beckenham Studio Theatre in June 2002.

     Doctor Hilde Medzavorian, Chief Science Office on the Anubis Delta Base – One of the main, (although thoroughly misunderstood),‘baddies’ in March 2003’s Dr Who Sci-Fi adventure “Vox Dei”

Directing credits include:

“Bazaar and Rummage” by Sue Townsend. A funny and hugely poignant play about a group of agoraphobic women trying to run a jumble sale. Gill also appeared as the WPC in this production.

“The Ruffian on the Stair” by notorious, 60’s playwright Joe Orton. A play which she innovatively set in ‘kitchen sink drama’ monochrome, with just a few flashes of colour to create impact.

“Children of the Monkey Basket” by 17year old playwright, Andy King – The winning play in the 1st Croydon Play-writing Competition July 1999.

“Lucky Sods” by John Godber EXIT’s debut production in September 2001. A black comedy about winning the Lottery.

“The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾”, EXIT’s version of Sue Townsend’s popular book in October 2002, which received high praise from every quarter.
