Popcorn13th - 15th February 2002 at The Braithwaite, Croydon Clocktower
Our production of Ben Elton’s award-winning play at the Braithwaite, Croydon Clocktower in February 2002 “Popcorn” was a highly entertaining satire about Hollywood’s fascination with sex and violence in films, which received both critical and audience acclaim and was a complete sell-out!
"Popcorn is a first rate popular entertainment, funny, gripping and genuinely thought-provoking." - Daily Telegraph "This is Ben Elton at his gruesome, satirical best" - Daily Mail Popcorn took the West End by storm with a highly successful run at the Apollo Theatre. The play was first performed at the Nottingham Playhouse in September 1996 and subsequently presented at the Apollo in April1997. It was the winner of the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for the Best New Comedy and the Barclays Theatre Award for Best New Play. |

“The play’s director, Graham Butler, moved his talented cast along at a punishing pace”.
"A constant stream of words comes from mass murderer Wayne Hudson (Mark Vinson) alternating between humour and threats with mercurial alacrity, and competent handling of his many weapons”.
“Teresa Bonanno as his ‘moll’ Scout, throws out some of the best comic lines of the play”
“Michael Louca is the distracted Delamitri, who faces the double trouble of divorce discussions with his financially greedy wife”.
“Sound effects, vital to the build up of tension, were accurately on cue and modern technology came to the fore in the closing moments”
“ A brash production of Ben Elton’s award-winning play with no holds barred against sex, drugs and even some rock n’ roll”.

"Exit aquit themselves with terrific enthusiasm.... This was particularly true of Mark Vinson who was very natural as the smart, psychopathic, white trash, Wayne and Teresa Bonnano as his devoted, but deranged lover, Scout.........Excellent night out".
